I've always liked, no, loved fighting.

Either somehow getting involved in scrapes (I blame it on being a red head) or being a fan of watching others go at it, it’s always fascinated me.

For me, like so many, it was watching Bruce Lee from a young age that started it all; the guy blew my mind then and still does now.

I thought all my Christmases had come at once when the very 1st UFC event was held.

Although I had followed Bushido, the forerunner to mma as we now know it, the UFC really was the real deal and the organization has been responsible for main stream media attention the athletes now get. They made it the fastest growing sport in history.

Over the years I've tasted all manors of martial arts and have been lucky to train alongside some of the worlds most accredited fighters and instructors and made some awesome friends along the way. I've always considered myself a student, but equally I've always taken great pleasure in sharing any knowledge I may have with others and I enjoy coaching as much as learning.

My lifelong experiences have lead me to this point, being lucky enough to run my own premier martial arts facility, fully equipped with everything I could wish for and surrounded by some great coaches and an equally great team of fighters and students, from 4 years young to 65 years old.

We know at SCA, that every single person who walks through the door will be made to feel welcome and will have the best opportunity of achieving their goals.

Our state of the art gym offers a 16' competition cage, Platform boxing ring, a whole range of punch / kick bags, Thai pads, focus mitts, free weights, kettle bells, battle ropes, tractor tyres and just about every training aid you can wish for.

Our matted area is nearly 1500 square feet of Olympic competition mats laid on Essex’s only bespoke martial arts sprung floor.

The floor system, not to be confused with a spring floor (using springs under the floor to create bounce), is designed specifically for Judo, Wrestling and other high impact martial arts, to absorb the kinetic energy when someone hits the mat, without causing rebound. Think of it like memory foam under the floor.

Our work within the local community sees us donating to various charities and fundraising events as well as sponsoring youngsters and working with local government organisations, helping underprivileged kids into the positive world of martial arts and all the benefits they offer.

We offer the most comprehensive variety of martial arts classes and training in Southend and Essex.
